The 2010 Jeep Patriot with optional side torso airbags has earned the Top Safety Pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), placing it at the head of it's class for safety and security. Powertrain
Good power. Good gas mileage. And good to the environment - that's the Patriot's 2.4L DOHC 16V dVVT I-4 engine - one of the cleanest engines on the planet.
All of the 2.0L and 2.4L World Engines feature a heavy dose of high-tech:

There are three available transaxles on Patriot:

AutoStick allows for either fully automatic shifting or driver-interactive manual control with six simulated stepped-gear ratios.
Suspension
Patriot offers smooth, agile and responsive handling thanks to its independent MacPherson strut front and multilink independent rear suspensions.
Patriot features unique shock tuning and high-strength steel springs for capable handling on mountain switchbacks and evasive maneuvers.

Hill Descent Control
Hill Descent Control with grade sensing allows a smooth and controlled hill descent on rough or slippery terrain without the driver needing to touch the brake pedal. This system applies the brakes to each wheel individually when needed, to reduce forward motion while negotiating down steep grades.

Accident Avoidance
During extreme steering maneuvers the Electronic Stability Control[1] (ESC) system helps maintain control by sensing when the vehicle is starting to over - or understeer.
The system automatically applies individual brakes or controls the throttle to help you stay safely on course. When you don't want the extra hand, ESC is specially tuned for performance handling so you can switch it off.

Special off-road calibration provides sustained lockup on surfaces like mud or gravel for improved braking, and aid in trail driving when in four-wheel-drive Off-Road mode.
Anticipating the need for additional traction, Patriot's four-wheel drive system automatically responds to wheel slippage by transferring power equally to both the front and rear wheels, improving vehicle stability.
Theft Deterrents
The remote keyless entry fob controls door and tailgate locks, and includes a panic alarm for extra security, putting both convenience and security at your fingertips.
