The 2.5L 4-cylinder engine works with the electric traction motor to move you with 177 net horsepower. Regenerative braking helps recharge the 330-volt battery pack, which then supplies energy to drive in 100% electric mode up to 70 km/h. Now that's taking efficiency to a whole new level.

Intelligent 4WD

With fully independent suspension and outstanding ground clearance, both Escape and Escape Hybrid are naturally nimble enough to drive up and over some formidable obstacles that some others will have to waste time driving around. If you prefer the road less travelled, go for optional intelligent 4WD. Always on and always working, it automatically monitors traction 200 times per second (much faster than any person could) and adjusts torque distribution as needed to give you maximum grip. It's got serious skills.

Pick Your Power

The 2011 Ford Escape's available Duratec® 30–3.0L V6 engine is Flex Fuel capable, so you can run it on gasoline, E85 (85% ethanol and 15% gasoline), or any blend of the two. Mated to an efficient 6-speed automatic transmission, it cranks out 240 horsepower and tows up to 1,588 kg (3,500 lbs.) when properly equipped.

When paired with the available 6-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, the standard Duratec 25–2.5L 4-cylinder engine delivers a remarkable 7.1L/100 km (40 mpg) hwy. and 10.0L/100 km (28 mpg) city.

Smooth Handling

There's a big world out there, and a lot of it doesn't have streetlights or paved roads. The available intelligent 4WD System on the 2011 Ford Escape enhances performance and handling in certain situations to help you reach many of those places. When necessary, the 4WD system sends power to the rear wheels to drive the vehicle, giving the front wheels more traction for steering.

Large front struts and lower control arm bushings help improve ride and comfort, optimizing handling. Low-friction stabilizer bar links make steering precise, while the independent suspension allows each wheel to absorb bumps individually. When it comes to steering, the 2011 Ford Escape has another trick up its sleeve: electric power-assisted steering. It adapts with changing road conditions and vehicle speed helping to provide more confident, precise steering and handling. Towing

When properly equipped with Class II Trailer Tow Prep Package and Duratec 30–3.0L V6 engine, the 2011 Ford Escape can tow up to 1,587 kg (3,500 lbs.). Maximum trailer towing capability will vary based on passenger and cargo loads, and optional equipment installed on the vehicle.

That's why the doors on the 2011 Ford Escape are slightly inset from the body of the vehicle, the door seals are tighter, and the windows are more flush to the doorframes. Aerodynamic mirrors and flat wiper blades also help reduce wind friction

Rear View Camera

The available new Rear View Camera displays a full-colour image from a liftgate-mounted camera on the available Navigation System's 6.5-in. LCD screen (when equipped) or on your rearview mirror.

Active Park Assist

Quicker and more user-friendly than a luxury brand's competitive system, our active park assist helps you conquer parallel parking in as little as 24 seconds. Just press a button and drive by potential spots. Ultrasonic sensors help you find a spot that's big enough, and the system lets you know when it's ready to park. You remove your hands from the steering wheel and respond to system prompts by shifting gears and controlling vehicle speed with the brake and accelerator pedals. The system handles the hard part: automatically steering the vehicle into the spot. Available on Limited and Hybrid Limited, it's bound to be your new best friend.

MyKey™

The industry-first, Ford-exclusive MyKey owner controls feature – standard on all Escape models for 2011 – lets you assign separate keys for additional drivers, all coded to enforce your specific restrictions on vehicle functions like top speed and audio volume. When activated, MyKey encourages smart driving behaviour by muting audio until safety belts are buckled, prohibiting the shutoff of key collision-avoidance features like AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control™), and more.

Blind Spot Mirror

Every 2011 Ford Escape comes equipped with heated sideview mirrors that improve visibility at the touch of a button. The integrated Blind Spot Mirrors (late availability) are especially helpful when changing lanes, parallel parking or backing up with a trailer.

Safety

AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control™)

AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control™) – features a unique vehicle-roll motion sensor that works in conjunction with the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), traction control, and yaw control. The sensor directly measures the vehicle's roll rate 100 times every second, which is used to determine when and how the system will apply individual brakes and modify engine power to help keep all four wheels firmly planted. This system is standard equipment on all 2011 Ford Escape models. Remember, even advanced technology can't overcome the laws of physics. It's always possible to lose control of a vehicle due to inappropriate driver input for the conditions.

Comprehensive Safety

The dual stage front airbags in our Personal Safety System® – which uses a network of sensors to enhance protection for the driver and front passenger – along with the front-seat side airbags and the side-curtain airbags of our Safety Canopy® System are standard equipment. That's a total of six airbags standard on every 2011 Ford Escape. And don't forget ABS brakes with electronic brake force distribution also come standard.

Other standard safety features include the 2011 Ford Escape's comprehensive restraint system. It adds to overall safety with standard safety belt pretensioners and height adjustable D-rings on driver and front passenger seats, manual three-point shoulder and lap safety belts at all seating positions, including rear center seating position.

SOS Post-Crash Alert System
